GAME FACE: Goodbye Lionhead Studios

GAME FACE: Goodbye Lionhead Studios
©Stuart Whyte So over the weekend, we said goodbye to a rather special English developer; Lionhead Studios. On 29th April, Lionhead had their last day in business, and I was one of the many mourning their closure. There’s no official reason as to why the studio were made to close their doors by their all-mighty benefactor; Microsoft, but I think we can hazard a damn good guess. Despite Fable: Legends being in development, there have been murmurings...

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Reveal Trailer Goes Into Space

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Reveal Trailer Goes Into Space
It’s now official because it says so in the new trailer: the next Call Of Duty game – to be released in November – will definitely be called Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare. For the first time in franchise history, the story extends beyond Earth and into space. So, how about the tagline, “To Infinite Warfare… AND BEYOND!”? Anyone? No? We’ll shut up, then Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will also be available as the Infinite Warfare Legacy...

Teaser Trailer For New Call Of Duty

Teaser Trailer For New Call Of Duty
We still don’t know for sure what the next Call Of Duty game will be called (though the smart money is on Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare) but we do now have a new teaser trailer for it. Titled “Know Your Enemy” it features a unidentified man issuing a doomy monologue: “Make no mistake, we will rip you from the history books. Every last trace of you, gone. You will know loss. We will be the architects of your pain. We will build monuments...

SEGA Developing Live Action Shinobi Movie
SEGA’s filmmaking wing Stories International, Inc is partnering with the production company behind Bridge Of Spies, Drive and Wanted – Marc Platt Productions – to develop a live action adaptation of the ninja-centric Shinobi video game franchise. “We love the Shinobi games and believe that the world of ninjas has never been properly explored onscreen,” says Platt. “We now have the opportunity to do just that. With Shinobi we hope...

GAME FACE: Happy 10th Birthday Okami!

GAME FACE: Happy 10th Birthday Okami!
©artofokami.com So I’m a little late to the party with this. Just a little bit. But it’s the thought that counts, right? Last week, Japanese cult classic Okami celebrated its 10th anniversary! Released for the PlayStation 2 on the 20th April 2006 in Japan and later in North America, Europe and Australia by the now extinct Clover Studios, Okami is an action-adventure/JRPG where you take on the role of wolf goddess: Amaterasu, in her quest to...

GAME FACE: How Hearthstone Wins at Free-to-Play

GAME FACE: How Hearthstone Wins at Free-to-Play
I’ve never played World of Warcraft. Such a shocking confession, from someone of my generation; but I’ve never been much of a PC gamer, having only just recently gotten my hands on a computer capable of even running Steam. Of course, I’m aware of the significant effect WoW had on the MMORPG genre, and on gaming as a whole. Heck, there have even been Simpsons and South Park episodes based on the series. If that doesn’t prove its cultural resonance,...

Grand Theft Auto Becomes A Bona Fide Work Of Art

Grand Theft Auto Becomes A Bona Fide Work Of Art
Grand Theft Auto is unarguably a massively popular videogame. But is it art? Well, it is now. The controversial game is forming the basis of a new moving image art exhibit at The Gallery, Tyneside Cinema from 4 May to 16 June. FF Gaiden: Alternative is the first collaborative solo exhibition by artists Larry Achiampong and David Blandy. FF Gaiden: Alternative is a major new moving image piece that forms part of the artists’ on-going Finding...

GAME FACE: Shabby Ports of Stellar Games

GAME FACE: Shabby Ports of Stellar Games
Since it’s release, it looks like Hyrule Warriors Legends has not been receiving very good reviews. Not only do we currently have publishers releasing games that don’t work properly at launch, requiring patches later on (*cough* Assassin’s Creed: Unity *cough*) we also have games that would otherwise provide excellent experiences, performing absolutely abysmally. I struggle to believe that anyone at Nintendo or Omega Force/Team Ninja played...

Watch Eli Roth’s Animated Dark Souls Short The Witches

Watch Eli Roth’s Animated Dark Souls Short The Witches
Cabin Fever and The Green Inferno director Eli Roth is, apparently, a big Dark Souls fan, which is presumably why he’s helped created this anime-esque animated short, called The Witches, as a teaser for Bandai Namco’s upcoming Dark Souls III. The game is set to be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows on 12 April. And, blimey, would you believe there’s a behind-the-scenes video to go with it as well…      Read More →
